Visitors sign up for fantastic Chinese New Year
06 Feb, 2017
The chance to spell out your name in Chinese characters proved irresistible for thousands of visitors to Bristol Museum this weekend.
The museum celebrated Chinese New Year in style with traditional lion dancing performances, Chinese dancing, dressing-up, music, martial arts demos, Chinese kites, Chinese arts and crafts such as paper folding, mask making and a chance to play Chinese chess.
But the calligraphy stand run by the Bristol and West of England China Bureau proved highly popular.
Bureau Director of Culture Tony Prescott said: “We had a great team in place ready to run the calligraphy stand but never guessed it would prove so popular. We had to call on more help to deal with public demand on the stall on Saturday afternoon and Sunday.
“We had something like 1,500 to 2,000 people having their names written in Chinese characters.
“We used up most of our paper and got through four marker pens!”
