The aims of the Chinese Garden are:
To widen the cultural context of the existing traditional Chinese Medicinal Garden.
To provide a focal point to celebrate the Sister City relationship between Bristol City Council and Guangzhou, southern China.
To provide a venue for visiting Chinese delegates and overseas Chinese students.
To highlight the work of the Bristol and South West China Partnership in forming business, educational and cultural links with China.
To enlarge the existing garden design based on the classical principles of contemplative gardens such as Suzhou.
To interpret classical Chinese garden symbolism to the general public, artists and garden designers.
To provide a scientific living collection for genetic and medicinal research.
The Chinese Culture Garden is being developed through three founding partners: The University of Bristol Botanic Garden; The Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine and The Bristol & West of England China Bureau (Bristol China Partnership)
